Every Michigander knows that Christmas includes snow. And while some of my students (ok, most of them) have never frequented Michigan, it seems cold is a tradition in many parts of the Northern Hemisphere for Christmas, too. (Others, of course, seem to think Christmas is the time to bring out board shorts. Some day I'll understand Kiwis...) So at recess one day, all the kids decided they'd make snow. Or collect it, a bit like God's provision of manna for the Israelites in the desert I think!
I had gotten something called Super-Snow once upon a time, thinking it was a hilarious find... and decided to bring it this term to the field. I was glad I did! We got to have snow for Christmas at the house, then I brought it to my Michigan-friends' house for more sparkly-white fun!
According to the Gerth kids, here's how you make snow:
1. Put salt in a bowl... or was it sugar?
2. Add water
3. Stir it up.
Keep stirring...
4. Voila! You've got snow!!!
And... some happy kiddos :)
Happy Snow Day! :)
