(A quick, less-than-polished update...)
It’s been just over a month since I first arrived in my new home. It’s a home that is being borrowed from some other missionaries who are in furlough, but that’s ok. After a few hiccups of mold and electricity issues, my new roommate and I are settling into a “normal” routine of life.
I hope to post some pictures from around town and life soon… but I managed to delete the last months’ worth of pictures a few days back, so will have to work on collecting them again first in the midst of daily life.
I’ve started teaching part-time at school until the new semester begins. I’m thankful for the chance to transition slowly! I’m also thankful for getting back to teaching. Aside from subbing at the local middle school near my parents' home last year, I haven’t been in a classroom of my own since I left HOPAC. And I’ve missed it.
Its funny how normal teaching feels, no matter where I am at in the world. My first day teaching at Lake Victoria Learning Center (LVLC – the student-created name for our school) brought a sigh of relief to my lips. Finally, something I knew. Something I recognized. In the midst of a (lovely) new roommate, new neighbors, new location, new friends, new school and curriculum, trying to remember all the Swahili I just learned at school, and new just about everything else (including figuring out what’s even available locally)… it’s nice to have at least one thing I feel like I’m competent at and can make a difference with.
... in other news, the families I went to language school with are finally arriving here in Musoma as well. One family will be here TODAY, and the other hopefully sometime next week! Looking forward to having them around, even as I'm connecting with some great "new" friends here as well... :)
