I stumbled upon a website - and a mission - that I thought was worth sharing. See if you agree.
Three individuals in Australia set out to raise awareness of the 2000 language groups around the world that still do not have a Bible in their own language. They are walking 1 km for every language group that is left without the Word of God... and speaking to people along the way!
Here's a blip I found on their website...
The map below is my favorite part... besides the fact that they are doing this at all! By request, a map has been created showing the 400 "most definite" needs around the world for Bible Translation. This makes me think of the many people I know serving in support roles, translation, or literacy in these places far from where they call "home" to further the cause of the gospel! The meaning of The 2000 Walk
The 2000 kilometre route reflects the 2000 languages that don’t have the Bible - but there’s even more to it than that:
Firstly, just as the Walk will be a long, hard process, so will be bringing the Bible to the 2000 language groups. It’s not something that we can complete in just a few years. There’s no quick fix; no substitute for ‘putting in the miles’
Secondly, on the Walk will be blisters, sweat, cramps and chafing. The process of translating the Word of God into a new language also involves hardship and pain
Thirdly, it’s too big a task to tackle alone. Just as we’re walking as a team, so we’ve also teamed up two different mission organisations - Operation Mobilisation and Wycliffe Bible Translators - to embark on the huge, God-given task before us
Finally, there’s a definite ‘finish line’. On 11th November - Remembrance Day - we’ll finish The 2000 Walk and we’re looking forward to trudging up that last dirt road and saying, ‘We’ve done it - we’re home!’ Likewise, this world has a finish line. We don’t know the exact day, but we do know that the Lord will come back soon. We have His promise in Revelation 7:9 that on that day there’ll be ‘a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb’. If the homecoming at the end of The 2000 Walk will be a time of great joy (and believe us, it will be!), then the final homecoming of the nations will be a million times more joyful.
