Why are you there?

Nov 2009

A blip from a newsletter from some of my friends, Carl and Carol Luther, who are heading off soon to PNG. Just thought this explained the reason I'm here better than I could do myself!

"Many of you have asked the hard question, why do we have to take our belief in Jesus to Papua New Guinea? Who will be there for Carol’s parents or our boys while they are in college? Why we are leaving so much to go to Papua New Guinea (great medical practice, our culture, family, and friends)? You have posed these questions, and they show your care and concern for our well-being. We want to reassure you that we have been called by the Father to do this task and He has equipped us with skills and experiences from our previous ministry and work. Secondly, we are willing and able, and we choose to give ourselves to further what we believe in. In one sense, it is no different than an altruistic adventure or social activism or working in a homeless shelter. The difference lies in the fact that we choose to go to PNG because Christ chose to pursue us. We are acting in response to a gift that has been freely given to us. We know that it is our relationship with the person of Jesus Christ who has changed us and given us a hope; and we want to share this hope with others. For this rea-son, we are leaving those near and dear to our hearts as well as some of the known securities we have had in the U.S. We have placed our faith in the One who can hold it all together. We want to encourage you to do the same."
